DC Backwoods Penny Lane - "Pepe"

Pepe was born on January 24, 2001.  Her dam, FC Jay-Mar's Blake's Blue Angel was bred to NFC/FC/AFC Sure Shot's Slick Nickel.  There were 7 puppies from this litter - 4 males, 3 females.  NFC/FC Backwoods Longshot (Lewis), FC/AFC Backwoods Reflection (Hank) and DC Backwoods Penny Lane (Pepe) were the most well known. Helen Shelley saw Pepe at Solon Springs at a TCGWPC field trial in August of 2002, purchased  her and Pepe went on to win the Open Derby!  Pepe's mom, Zip won the first annual Poodle Open that weekend.  That fall at the '02 GWPCA Nationals, Lewis won the Derby and Futurity and Pepe was third in both. Sister Lucy was 4th in the Futurity.

Pepe went to Texas that winter to get steadied to wing and shot.  She was campaigned that spring and fall and ran at the '03 Nationals.  In the spring of '04 Pepe won the Open Gun dog at the TCVC trial and finished her FC.  She had finished as a show champion in November '03, so she became a dual champion.

Pepe was diagnosed with lyme disease at the end of May.  She was treated with every medicine possibe, but her kidneys were too damaged by the disease, and she was put down on July 21, 2006.
